There is a supremely photogenic field in the hills bordering Rye, at the hamlet of Playden. Its rolling contours bristle with crops by the end of summer and the well-maintained footpath cuts dramatically from the valley bottom to the top. It has a striking vorticist style of geometry with angles and arcs smashing into secants and chords and making the scene abstract itself.
