In praise of February snow
2021, 21x21cm graphite, ink, acrylic on paper. Framed.
I walked around Beckley Wood in February just before it snowed and really froze for the first time. There's a particular muddy track lined by old coppiced trees that have been allowed to grow to their own design for a long while now. I started to wonder about the lives of this little community at the turn of the season.
This is the second part of a little visual story about a those trees in Beckley. First they were bathed in incredible sunshine, just before the ice arrived and the shadows ran blue. Then the rains washed most of the ice away and the luminous shrubs, mosses and grasses reappeared, leaving the trees like skeletons.
