Fuel for free

Fuel for free, 2019, ink on paper, 5 x 7 inches

After many hours of labour working in woodland in East Sussex, trying to bring a neglected wood back to health, I helped construct this firewood drying shelter. Unfortunately we soon noticed that the stockpile was being pilfered. Every few weeks a small amount would disappear. A galling loss when you know how much effort goes into preparing all of that wood. Worse still when the woodland is not being used as a farm but as a biodiversity sink. The trees we felled were only in order to allow the understory to thrive. The rest would be left to stand. It makes the firewood all the more precious.
