COUMEENOOLE OR COM DHÍNEOL
Coumeenoole or Com Dhíneol, 2022, ink on paper, 210x297mm
This is my first seascape, depicting the beach at Coumeenoole (Com Dhíneol in Irish) on the Dingle Peninsular in County Kerry, Ireland. This beach takes the full force of Atlantic storms but when I visited the tide was coming in quite gently. I chose the scene whilst thinking about the long churn of the Ocean and admiring the patterns in the foam, but when I actually started working on it I found the tonal range quite a challenge. The slope of the beach means that between the bright foam the water sometimes shows the sandy bottom, but in other places it shows very dark indeed.
